God is Real
(Psa 14:1) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
(Psa 53:1-5) To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. -2. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. -3. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. -4. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God. -5. There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
Our subject today is "God Is Real". Our world is filled with ideas and notions about God and the absence of God. One of the first steps you need to take as a believer is to be convinced that God is Real. He does exist. He is your creator. He is in control of the universe. All power is His. He lives in His people and He wants to live in you.
Let us look first at the statement of the fool. In his heart, he has said there is no God. Now, a lot of people have tried to tell themselves that there is no God. And they give themselves reasons for such a conclusion just as the fool does. The fool's conclusion is that there is none that doeth good. He thinks that because there is so much corruption and ungodliness going on. He seems to think that because God does not swiftly destroy the sinners, then He must not exist. Remember that this is the thinking of a fool and not a rational person.
If you will think with me a little while, you will clearly see that there is a God and that He is far above anything man can envision or think. To start with, think of the world that you live in. Here you are living on a giant ball called earth. It is setting out here in space on nothing. It is spinning at a constant speed. It stays just the right distance from the sun so that life can be maintained. It tilts and revolves around the sun in a perfect manner to give us four seasons of the year. The climates are all in place and give us a great variety of conditions in which to live, grow certain crops, and enjoy. The moon, stars, planets, and countless other bodies make up a universe so vast that we cannot know the depth, width, and height of it. We know that the universe has been in existence for thousands of years. In fact some are convinced that it has existed for billions of years. For sure, we know that it has been here for eons of time and continues to this day. Now, to believe that all of this just happened on its own with no creator, is to think as the fool. Here you have a universe operating as a precision machine. How could such a thing happen without a master? To believe that such a thing could happen without a master, is the same as to believe that the watch on your arm just appeared on its' own with no one designing it, fashioning it, and putting it together with the greatest of care. Only a fool could believe such a thing.
Think about your physical body that you live in. How fascinating it is. How exact it seems to work with zillions of cells making up the various parts of the body. Each part doing what it was designed to do makes you a healthy, living person. The more we learn about the working of the body and how it is reproduced, the more we are amazed at this incredible machine. Once again to think that such a creature just happened with no creator behind it is to think as a fool.
So you say, OK there must be a creator but how can I know that this creator is the God that you are talking about? That's a good question and once again I appeal to your good sense of reasoning for the answer. Since God created this world with life in such a beautiful manner, it would only make sense that He would give us some sort of instructions so that we would know how to live in this world. For God to make a book of instructions, would be a very simple task compared to making a man or a woman. Therefore, our task is to find the instructions. Is it the Bible that we use or is it some other book? I set out to find that answer nearly forty years ago and was soon convinced that the Christian Bible is indeed the instruction book of my creator. The more I study it, and the more that I know about it, the more I see that it is the truth.
Consider what the Bibles says in (Prov 14:34) Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. If you will study this principle, you will have to agree that it is truth. Any time throughout history that a nation has been controlled by a majority of righteous people that nation has been exalted. At the same time any nation that becomes corrupted with sin brings a reproach to that nation. Because some understand that principle today they are active in trying to get the people of our nation to repent of their sins and turn to God to live godly, righteous lives. To deny this principle exists and is truth is to act as the fool. And so it is with thousands of principles laid out in the Christian Bible making it the book of instructions given us by our creator.
Yes, I understand that the Bible has gone through many translations and revisions through the years of history. I also understand that for the creator to keep the spirit and intent of His instructions intact through the translations and revisions is an easy thing compared to the creation of a universe such as the one that we are a part of.
And so we look to the Bible to guide us in learning about our God and His rules for our lives. As you learn about God and His rules for your life in the Bible, you will find that He has planned the way to live so that you can enjoy this life and life throughout the ages of eternity. Once again if you will listen to God, you will be able to enjoy your life. If you reject God or attempt to ignore Him, you will not be able to really enjoy this life or your time in eternity. This is another principle set down by God that cannot be changed no matter how hard you may try. Yes, God Is Real and He is in control of the universe.
Another false assumption the fool in our text made was that there was no one doing good. No doubt he made this assumption based upon his own feelings and his own actions. It is very human to think that all others feel and act just like you do, but the truth of the matter is that virtually no one else feels and acts exactly as you do. If you will just pay attention to some others and listen to them you will quickly come to realize this fact. This is why we have so many different makes and models of things, such a great variety of colors of things, etc.,; it is because of the vast differences that are within us that causes us to feel and act as we do. Therefore, as a matter of fact there are thousands of people that are doing good. But you will have to pay attention to them and know a little about them to find that out. Of course the fool will never know that for fools will not be instructed to learn anything. (Prov 15:5) A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
Another false assumption that the fool makes is that because sin and ungodliness are rampant and God does not swiftly and quickly bring judgment and execution on them, then God either does not exist or is dead. Once again it is this human thinking that causes people to think and feel as they do. It is very difficult to realize that there is such a thing as mercy and patience when you don't posses it. However, if you will learn of God, you will find that He is a God of Mercy. If fact He delights in mercy - (Micah 7:18-19) Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. -19. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
Since our God delights in mercy, He is not quick to punish evil doers. He hopes that they will recognize the error of their sins, repent, and come to Him and He will forgive them. Now this concept of delighting in mercy is very difficult for many to comprehend. Yet, it is one of the principles of God that will give great peace to those that come to obtain it.
How Do You Know That God Is Real? When you take God's word and act on it doing what God commands you, you will see that it works. For example: (Mat 11:28-30) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. -29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. -30. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Jesus says come unto Him and He will give you rest. Take His yoke, learn of Him and you will find rest for your soul. I have listened to hundreds of people testify through my life time and I have never heard of even one person that took Jesus' yoke upon them that regretted it. I have heard thousands thank God again and again for the opportunity to be free from sin and to enjoy the rest that they have found for their souls. At the same time I have heard many say that they wished they would have lived the way God wanted them to for that was the only time that they really were able to enjoy life. Now this is 100%. Every one that lives for God says that it is the best life including every one that lived for God and backslid. No one who has ever lived for God can truthfully say that it was a mistake. How could this be if there was no God?
The more you learn about God and the more you put into practice those things that you learn, the more you will know that God is indeed real.
God is real. It is the fool that says there is no God. This universe did not just happen any more than did any other precision machine we know of - it was created by a master and that master is God. A study of the Bible will show you that God has left it as instructions for you so that you can have rest for your soul. You will know that God is real by learning of Him, taking His yoke upon you and following Jesus. Every one that lives a godly life will testify to you that it is the best life to live. Will you accept Jesus' invitation today and come unto Him? (Mat 11:28-30) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. -29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. -30. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
