EDITORIAL

2 Cor. 9:7 “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Thank you for your generous giving to the missions and particularly the way you have responded to the need for Brother Luzan’s congregations in the Philippines.  Your Lord notices your prayers and offerings and His blessings will be abundant.

Jesus told us that we would always have the poor with us.  I believe that is to give us opportunity to share our material blessings with them.  There are lots of needs still in the various mission fields.  Please continue to pray for the mission needs and do what you can to help them.  Thank you for your faithfulness. PHILIPPINES

December 20, 1999

Dear Brother Rexroth and Saints,

Greetings from the Philippine Mission in Jesus precious name.  Hoping and praying all are well in body and soul, and always prospering in the service of the king.

Saints, before the year 1999 closed, here’s our report expressing our much gratitude, for all the blessings we’ve received from you all, for God’s mission in answers to our prayers.

We have made adjustment to solve the Pastor monthly offering by withdrawing from our Ministerial Emergency Fund and our deposited 10% in addition to the fund we have withdrawn from the World Missionary Fellowship in Killbuck Bank.  It’s our earnest prayers that the heart of His dear people will be more blessed and will be able to stand for the difference vacated by our beloved God’s Acres Church of God.

Time is so fast that our both districts are busy in the preparation of the incoming young people convention to be held in Davao City Church of God in Mindanao district and in Rizal Church of God in Luzon district.  Saints we covet your intercessory prayers for the success of this gathering.

Enclosed, please is a group picture of the Bible School students with their instructors this second semester.  There are 11 very promising young people, 7 boys and 4 girls.  Judas is not included in the picture.

Closing with our much prayer that our father above may continue aiding us in the mission field.

Wishing you all a prosperous happy, happy New Year 2000.

In His Cause,
Bro. & Sis. D. B. Luzan Sr.

NIGERIA

No report this month.  I sent a UPS courier letter to Brother John and expect to have a report for next month. We still need help to pay the debt for his hernia operation.

There are other very pressing needs in Nigeria.  They need a van, a diesel generator, monthly pastor’s support and building repairs.  Thanks to those that have helped and are helping.  As your congregations are planning, praying and developing your budgets for next year, please consider helping Brother John in Nigeria.

He has said that he can purchase a van for $4,000.00 but he could get a much better one for $10,000.  He has no car and a van will be a great help to them.  Brother Henry Marquiss and I are planning to go to visit Brother John and his congregations in August and we will need transportation.  Public transportation is costly, time consuming and insecure.  Please! Please! Help us with this van.

The diesel generator is a must as the electric supply is so little that they cannot accomplish much with their printing equipment.  The generator will cost $5,600 and a little over $100. Has been contributed so far.

Please pray for these needs.

DEAR JUDY

This column is a burden to help Christian singles get together for encouragement and friendship.  Names, addresses, ages and interests are available through your participation. Should you care to receive a list, please send your name and address along with the information about yourself to: Dear Judy, P. O. Box 364, Bristow, OK  74010; E-mail: agape157@Juno.com (Note new Email address)

Dear Judy,

You have shared with us about beginning relationships, but what about those of us who are already in a relationship, or married?  What would you say to us?

Interested to hear.

Dear Interested,

You are not alone.  Many questions are often asked, but since you have not been real specific, let me say that to keep a relationship strong, always remember how it got started.  When times get a little rough or rocky, think about the facts that drew you to your spouse.  The smile, the laugh, the funny things he or she did, the way her or she made you feel when you were together.

I guarantee if you spend time thinking about the good things about your relationship, the negative things will soon fade.

Most importantly, NEVER go to bed angry!  This is BIBLE – Eph. 4:26.

This is the best advice my Mother and Father left with me for my relationship with my dear Husband.  It works!

Praying for the married as well,
Judy

EVANGELIST’S REPORT

Dear Brother Stanley,

We have just returned home again and can’t thank God enough for His mighty moving and love!  I believe with all my heart that the Lord wants to do some great things in His Church if each one of us will give Him all there is to have of us.

As the world waxes worse and worse we Christians are to shine brighter and brighter for the Master.  We have enjoyed special services, cottage prayer meetings and revival in many places.  It is our earnest prayer that a great moving of God’s spirit will flow through each of us in the Church of God and we will see the Lord accomplish things greater than He ever has before!

We were invited to preach at a cottage prayer meeting this past week and God’s moving was so precious!  There were only about 25 folks in attendance but oh how wonderful was our time together!

A while back God allowed us to speak at a Christian College of over 500 students and the Lord moved and the altars filled.  Souls are hungry from the youngest to the oldest.  Let’s feed them with His help!

Please keep Sis. Judy and I in your prayers as we continue to seek His will for us and our future in Kingdom work.

Lifting Christ,
Bro. Chuck & Sis. Judy Scroggs

GUATEMALA

Dear Mission Friends,

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, son, and Holy Ghost.  God’s children to express their gratitude for his faithfulness have used the words of this chorus for many years.  Today I join with the Psalmist in saying, “Bless the Lord, o my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”  The Lord has been so good to me – I feel like traveling on.

As I write to you my heart is filled to overflowing as I observe, and recognize the hand of God in his great work.  Over and over again the Lord has proven to be all-sufficient.

The work here continues to move steadily forward.  It is such a joy to observe the progress both spiritually and physically.  We thank God that He has kept us in good health and spirit.

We are happy to announce that funds have been given for the much-needed church building in Cacahuito.  We have begun digging the footers for the foundation work and hope to move as quickly as possible toward completion.  Also we are nearing completion on new buildings in Poza de Agua and Paja Armada.  These dear saints have been patiently waiting for some time.  And then, the construction project here at the mission is coming along quite well.

The blessing of God’s revelation in the Pastor’s Bible Class continues to amaze us.  The last two studies have been blessed with great out pouring of God’s Spirit.  We have rejoiced, wept, and witnessed a deep love among the brethren.  I must admit that it has been some time since I have seen such workings of the Spirit.  To God be the Glory, Great things He has done!

The evangelistic endeavors in which Bro. Orlando and I have been engaged are on going.  We are praying and planning for other new places to spread the good news of the kingdom of God.  Bro. Orlando has resigned his congregation in Taxisco and will now devote as much time as possible to evangelism.  Please help us pray – this is a very vital part of the ministry here.  On Dec. 10, 11, 12 we had a youth convention here at Guazacapan.  The attendance was very good – the singing and music was great and we once again witnessed a great visitation of God’s presence.  A number of souls were saved and on Sunday night a great number came forward in the invitation.  There were different churches visiting with us and one young man, a great singer, from El Salvador came and stayed for the entire meeting.  The Lord is opening doors in many directions and it is very exciting to see him at work in the different lives.  This town has been under the spirit of witchcraft in the past, but we are now seeing a move of God, and souls are being awakened to the glorious gospel.

I could not possible report, even in brief, all the things in which we are involved.  We are preaching, teaching, working doing our best to see the expansion of God'’ great cause.  Our bodies are tired, but our spirit is renewed.  We praise the good Lord.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.  The holidays are always special times of joy with the family and friends gathering together.  May God help us to be truly thankful for the gift of His dear son, Jesus. What a wonderful announcement the angels made – a Savior is born!  Not just a deliverer for Israel but a mediator for all mankind.  Oh, how blessed we are to have such a loving Father in heave.

I appreciate your love, prayers and support for this ministry here.  Your giving has made a difference.  We could not do this without your help.  There are so many needy souls.  People that need to hear the good news of the gospel.  Little children that need a hug, a little love.  Some are hungry, some are homeless and all have souls that will spend eternity somewhere.   Can we turn our heads, can we close our hearts?  Can we withhold that which God intended to be a blessing for his cause?  We must do all we can, where we can, while we can.  Many doors are open now, only God knows when they may close forever.  May God encourage all our hearts to lay up treasures in heaven, where moth and rust can not destroy.  Before we will have opportunity to write again, a New Year will have begun if God should tarry, Many will be making resolutions.  Let us agree together on one resolution – we will commit ourselves to the work of God without any reserves.  Life is too short to waste – eternity is forever.  Keep busy for the Lord!

Please keep us in your daily prayers.  We will be in touch each month, God willing.  Ask others to join with us in preaching the gospel, and doing the work of God’s kingdom in Guatemala.  We envision the time when God will open doors in other countries of Central America.  These are exciting days, we need you help.

Send all contributions to: The Church of God, P. O. Box 583, Clay City, KY 40312 Please note on the check if it is for our personal support or for general mission support.

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face to shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance unto thee, and give thee peace. (Num. 6:24-26)

Thanks again for all your help, love and prayers.

We remain,
Christ’s Service

EASTSIDE CHURCH OF GOD

1983 Hwy. 594
P. O. Box 4110
MONROE, LOUISIANA 71211

Brothers and Sisters:

As many of you are already aware, our pastor of 46 years, Bro. Haral Beebe has become too ill to continue his duties.  The Lord has blessed in that he is now home and doing well, although his physical activities are extremely limited.  We also know he would love your continued prayers, as well as any cards or notes of encouragement you might be able to send. His address is 1967 Hwy. 594, Monroe, LA 71203

With much prayer and concern, our congregation has undertaken the daunting task of seeking a new pastor.  It is our utmost desire that the Lord’s will be done in our lives in this regard.  As such, we humbly ask your prayers that this may be accomplished according to his will and time.  You may also know the extent of the miracle we are now in need of. Our attendance has fallen significantly in the last five years.  Many of us that remain are dealing with extreme trials with family or financial needs.  It will surely be a miracle of the Lord to place a true pastor in our midst.  Please pray for us.

As Paul tells us in 2 Cor. 12:10, it is when we are weak that we really are strong.  It is only because of God’s power working in and around us that mighty things can be accomplished.  We at Eastside therefore rely on the Lord’s strength to bring about the miracle in our hour of need.  We are only looking for the one He has called to come to us.  Please help us get the word out among your congregations and other brothers and sisters in Christ.  Should you know of some we can contact, please write us at the above post office box address, or email us at tamarap2@excite.com. Direct inquiries by phone can be addressed to Elmer or Irene Powell (318) 343-0896

God Bless You,
The congregation at Eastside
